The Palm Security Update

This SecurityPatch.prc software will address a password security issue that was discovered on Palm Zire 71 and Tungsten T2 handhelds. The issue relates to a condition that may compromise the password lock out of the device.

If you use the password protection or the Auto Lock Handheld security feature, you must download and install this patch. The system requirements and the installation steps are outlined below.



System Requirements
  • Palm Zire 71 / Tungsten T2 handheld
  • PC running Windows 98/NT 4.0/2000/Me/XP
    - OR -
  • Mac OS X (version 10.1.2 or higher)
    - OR -
  • Mac OS 9 (version 9.1 and higher)



Windows Installation

If you are a Windows user and have downloaded the SecurityPatch.zip (3 KB ZIP) file:
  1. Extract the file using a standard unzip utility. Note the location of the directory/folder the file is extracted to.
  2. Launch Palm Desktop. Select the Install Tool icon.
  3. Select the correct user name from the User list.
  4. Select the Add button.
  5. Locate the Installer*.prc file in the directory/folder noted in Step 1 above and double-click on it.
  6. Select Done.
  7. Select OK.
  8. During the next HotSync synchronization, Palm Security Update will be installed and activated.



Macintosh Installation

If you are a Macintosh user and have downloaded the SecurityPatch.sit (4 KB SIT) file:
  1. Your web browser should decode the file and you will see the appropriate .sit file appear on the desktop (or in your default download folder). If your web browser does not decode the file automatically, you will need to use a decoding utility (such as Aladdin Stuffit Expander) in order to decode the .sit file.
  2. Find the Instant Palm Desktop icon in the top right corner of your screen. From the Instant Palm Desktop menu, launch the HotSync Manager.
  3. From the HotSync menu of the Instant Palm Desktop, select "Install" and pick the correct user name from the User list.
  4. Select Add to List. Locate the Installer*.prc file and double-click on it.
  5. Quit HotSync Manager. The file will be installed during your next HotSync operation.
