Palm™ Desktop 4.2.1 Rev D for Macintosh®



Palm Desktop is a Date Book, To Do List, Address Book, and more. It can be used as a stand-alone application, or to view, sort, find, edit, back up, and add applications to your Palm DEVICE.

Version 4.2.1 Rev D adds support for Macintosh OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and additional handhelds that were not supported by version 4.2.1 Rev A.


This software is for Macintosh OS X only
If your Macintosh is running a previous version of the Macintosh OS, please install the software recommended to the right. Note: Although Palm Desktop software is available for Macintosh OS 9, 8 and 7, your handheld may not be compatible with all of these Macintosh OS versions. Check the specifications listed on the box for your Palm device to learn about Macintosh OS compatibility.

What is included in this download?

Palm Desktop
This is the main Personal Information Management (PIM) software that lets you manage your Date Book, To Do List, Address Book and Memos on your Macintosh.

HotSync Manager
This component lets you synchronise the information in Palm Desktop with your Palm device.

  • Calendar (Date Book)
  • Contacts (Address Book)
  • Memos (Memo Pad)
  • Tasks (To Do)
  • Note Pad
  • Media or Photos (backup functionality for Photos or Media handheld application only)
  • Voice Memo (if included on your device)

HotSync Manager also lets you control the way you sync PIM items and third-party software, and includes conduits for adding new software to your device and backing up system settings.

Send To Handheld droplet
This droplet lets you drag and drop files to be transferred to your Palm device the next time you sync.

Fix for previous Rev B permissions issues
If you installed Palm Desktop 4.2.1 Rev B and encountered permissions issues, install this version now to fix the issues.

What is NOT included? The web version of Desktop 4.2.1 Rev D for Macintosh is a generic installer intended for a variety of Palm devices. This download does not include special device-specific components that are on your device's installation CD.

In order to get these items, you will need to install the software from the CD that came with your Palm device.


What is new in this version?

Changes from version 4.2.1 Rev C:
We have devised a more elegant fix for the permissions issue we had encountered with iSync (formerly addressed in Rev C). We have re-released the desktop with the improved installer behaviour. For those who have already installed Rev C, there is no reason to update to Rev D. The Rev D installer does not adjust permissions on non-Palm-related folders.

However, if you installed Rev C and you noticed that some Macintosh applications no longer work, you may need to reinstall these applications.

Changes from version 4.2.1 Rev B:
Fixed file and folders permission issue which could impair iSync functionality when installing Palm Desktop without administrator rights. If you encountered this issue, install this version (Rev D) to fix it.

Changes from version 4.2.1 Rev A:
Added support for Mac OS versions:

Added support for Palm devices:

  • Tungsten T5

Changes from version 4.1:
Send to Handheld droplet 1.3: The Send To Handheld Droplet allows you to send image and audio files to your Palm handheld or expansion card. Compatible with Mac OS X (through OS X 10.3.3)

Please Note:
  • Synchronisation between the desktop and the handheld requires a corresponding application on the Palm handheld. Not all applications are supported on all Palm handhelds. Handheld applications are not included with this download.
  • Some image files, video clips and audio files require installation to an expansion card. Expansion card enabled Palm device may be required. Expansion card and handheld applications not included.

**Install Palm Desktop from your device's software installation CD first. Although this download is compatible with the devices above, additional conduits and applications are included only on the CD version, and are not available in this download. If you are simply upgrading and have already used the software CD for your device, please proceed.
